What is a Domain Name?

Domain Names Are

A domain name is the address the internet uses to find your webpage. It is also the path that a user takes to get to your website, much like how a telephone number calls a phone.

The domain would be the number dialed and the phone would be your website. You can have a bunch of numbers that all lead to the same phone much like you can have a bunch of domains that all lead to the same website.

A domain can be hosted by a variety of providers and will be renewed based on an annual basis. If your domain is not renewed and expires, the domain goes onto a list of available domains and may be purchased by someone else. Every domain extension has a Renewal Grace period, allowing you to renew the domain after it has expired. The time frame of the Grace period varies and sometimes the costs to renew may increase within this grace period so renewing a domain prior to the expiry is always best.
